Physical Description

The "mud terror", as it is called by hunters and rangers, appears as a large slug-like creature with a flattened mound-shaped body and multiple tentacles on its top side. It's skin is a dully grey-green and and glistens wetly with a thick layer of slime. It is quite large. The average specimen is three meters across and 1000 kilograms. It slithers about, flowing smoothly over any terrain and even up sheer vertical walls. It can travel at the speed of a running man. The creature has no visible eyes or other sensory organs.

Combat

In combat, a slime terror will lash out with its six tentacles striking and grappling as necessary. A seventh tentacles is larger than the others and ends in a cone shaped structure which can spray out a sticky, green, acidic slime. This acidic slime is the same slime that coats it. Anything that comes into contact with this slime (weapons, armor, etc) will begin to slowly corrode. The acid will eat through leather armor in a few seconds and metal armor within two minutes. If slime is not quickly wiped off of armor, the armor can be permanently damaged or destroyed. The cone-like appendage is able to spray a concentrated burst of this acidic slime accurately out to a distance of about 7 meters. Mud terrors are very dangerous creatures and remarkably tough. Because of the slime and rubbery flesh, weapons have a tendency to slide off and deliver only glancing blows. The tentacles are difficult to hit because they are so fast.

Mud terrors are aggressive and will relentlessly pursue a potential meal. They do not need to breathe and will not be stopped by a river or moat. They can stay submerged in water for hours. They will often wait, concealed in mud or water in swamps or dungeons, to surprise prey.

The mud terror seems to be able to see in all directions at once and is extremely difficult to surprise. Furthermore, it seems to have a good sense of smell and can also sense the tiniest vibrations in the ground. Because of this, it can fight invisible opponents with no penalty.

Mud terrors are totally unaffected by mind affecting magic. Their slime coating makes them resistent to fire, cold and sonic attacks, but highly vulnerable to electrical attacks.

Geographic Distribution and Habitat

Mud terrors are rare solitary creatures. They are usually encountered in swamp and wetlands or underground. On rare occasions, they may be found in forests or fresh water shores.

Ecology

The mud terror feeds on anything organic: people, corpses, carrion, garbage, wood, even leather. While it can survive on anything organic, it seems to prefer meat. It will pursue live prey over other food sources. When it kills a victim, it will flow over the victim and digest the body. The creature is able to excrete the acidic slime from its underside. Although the acid is strong enough to dissolve bone and metal with enough time, the creature is only intereseted in consuming organic parts and will leave behind bone, metal and other bits.

This creature is known to scholars as the telaxoid. Few studies have been conducted on the telaxoid and very little is known about the creature's life cycle. The slime excreted by this creature is a powerful acid and also an alchemical component in some powerful potions.
