This web site is dedicated to the memory of my parents, John and Laverne Roomes. Both were extremely supportive of me and my creative pursuits, including this web site. They always gave me the courage to pursue my dreams. I can honestly say that I would never have written a single word of Khoras if it had not been for their unconditional support.
My mom was was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Erie, Mich. She graduated from college with a degree in teaching and worked as an executive secretary in several different businesses including Alcoa Building Products. My dad was born August 21, 1936 in the south of England. He was in the British Merchant Navy and, in his life, he visited more countries than I can count.
They met in Toledo, Ohio when they were paired up during a dance class. Years later, they married and settled in Sidney, Ohio, where they raised three sons. Mom was active in bridge clubs, the church and the community. Dad was an avid sailor, boat builder and carpenter. (The sea god Semorjon is named after him).
They retired to Whidbey Island, Washington in 2000. She died of complications from leukemia on January 1st, 2004 in Burien, WA, while traveling back from a family Christmas in Ohio. She was 69 years old. She is buried in Sunnyside Cemetery in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, Washington.
Dad suffered a stroke Dec 8, 2021 and died in the hospital a week later, on Dec 16, 2021.
I miss them both very much.
