The Veils

Description

This large plaza is bordered by numerous awnings and canopies. Beneath these are a dozen merchants that mercers, cobblers, furriers and tailors. They cooperate as a collective, pooling their resources and profits. The plaza and its denizens are often simply referred to as “the Veils”. In this plaze, one can browse and purchase clothing of all types, shoes, hats, furs, capes, cloaks and such. Raw materials are also available here in the form of bolts of cloth, thread, cotton and linen fibre. Finally, the Veils also includes a merchant of tapestries, rugs and carpets. If it’s woven or if you wear it on your body, you can likely find it here. The clothing is high quality and the customers tend to be higher class. There is usually a pair of armed guards here who deter thieves, beggars and other riff raff. The Veils is run by a large and overbearing blonde woman named Skyla. She bellows out orders, warnings and sales pitches with equal fervor. This group of merchants seems to be well run, but several subplots bubble beneath the surface. Arkris, a young handsome furrier, and Jemma, a seamstress and daughter of Skyla, are secretly in love, a relationship that Skyla would not approve of. The two lovebirds are secretly stealing money from the collective and hoping to escape together. Emril, a tailor, is in love with Jemma and knows of their plans. He is blackmailing Arkris to hand over the money or he will expose them to the group. Weslon, an effete tailor with a flair for expensive clothes and wine, has managed to rack up tremendous gambling debts. The gang to whom he now owes money is threatening to come in to the Veils by force and “take over” as recompense.

Adventure Ideas

Arkris hires the party to rough up Emril and intimate him to drop the blackmail idea. Or perhaps to kill him outright.
